Robin Rhode (Cape Town, South Africa, 1976)

Born in Cape Town in 1976, Robin Rhode moved to Johannesburg in 1984 to study visual and film arts and from 1996 to 2001 he trained at the AFDA - Association of Film and Dramatic Arts.

His art is a synthesis of an expressive form in which the artist combines different genres and artistic forms: performance, video, photography, drawing and sculpture, creating narrative sequences through the use of materials belonging to everyday life that serve to trigger constant reflection on the relationship that man holds with desire, play and imagination.

In 2005 and 2015 he participated in the Venice Biennale representing South Africa. His works can be found in private and public, national and international collections, including Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and MoMA in New York.

Recent exhibitions include: Museum Voorlinden, Wassenaar, Netherlands (2021); Kunsthalle Krems, Krems, Austria (2020); Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Wolfsburg, Germany (2019).

The artist currently lives and works in Berlin.
