Pierpaolo Campanini (Cento, Ferrara, Italy, 1964)

Born in Cento in 1964 – where he still lives and works – Campanini focuses his artistic activity on the creation of hybrid sculptural compositions. These are made of a mixture of ordinary objects put together in a precarious balance and then painted on canvas in an impersonal way. The aim is to introduce a distance between the sculpture, which is ephemeral and destined to disappear, and its accurate and cold representation.

His constructions – familiar and yet unnatural – are hyper-realistic and nourished by technological imagination. Through tech culture, links to photographic representation and educated pop references, Campanini analyses the meaning and modes of today’s painting.

He has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group shows in prestigious museums in Italy and abroad, including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), MAXXI (Rome), Le Consortium (Chicago), and Fondazione Querini Stampalia (Venice).
